The differentiation between Craft and Art is in the way the local culture conceives it. What will make all the difference is the language that will be used.
Art and craft
In practical terms we can demonstrate that the artisan has the technique and uses it – in a useful way, generating objects with precise definition focused on their commercialization. In contrast, the artist uses his technique and knowledge of the same material, also for trade, but especially for expressing himself.
Craftsmanship: related to a practical sense.
Art: related to an idea of expression.
What presents art is the culture of a people, so Art is the way, it is the representation of culture in the period in which it is in production. In the same way, craftsmanship, distinguishing itself from art in the form of assimilation of culture.
Handicraft is the Craft, almost always using natural raw material or some kind of own craftsman’s production. However, after industrial mechanization, the identification of the artisan is made as the one who manufactures objects linked to popular culture.
Traditionally, handicraft is that of family production, in which the artisan relies on the forms of production there in his own environment, doing this together with his family and in his residence, reaching all stages of production, starting with the raw material. until it reaches the degree of finish; therefore, there are no separations at work or any form of specification for the manufacture of a particular product. In certain situations the artisan counts on an apprentice, who teaches the art and this one will also pass it on to another, and this craft becomes folkloric.
Handicrafts can be classified as popular, erudite, and folkloric, manifesting themselves in various forms such as, in the popular body shop, utilitarian ceramics, horn and leather work, woven and braided vegetable fibers, water foot monjolo, manufacture of cassava flour, contraptions, popular tincture, musical instruments and many others. Primitive drawings and paintings also include woodwork, wax, sculptures, guarana stone, sugar dough, bread crumbs, jewelery, filet, lace, crochet, fabric painting, knitting, trimmed paper, and much more. more.
There is no way to be precise when craftsmanship arose, because it blends with the history of man himself, as the urgency of producing goods for routine use and utilities, including decorations, has disclosed the ability to produce and create as a way of working.
The first objects made by man were handmade. This statement can be seen in the Neolithic phase (6,000 BC) when man began to polish stone, make ceramics, and invented the technique of weaving plant and animal fibers.
In the same period this was also perceived in our lands. Research has admitted the identification of a lithic industry and the manufacture of ceramic pieces by tribes of northeastern tradition that inhabited part of Piaui six thousand years before Christ.
After the nineteenth century, this art was then concentrated in spaces called workshops, in which a small group of apprentices lived with the master craftsman, who held all the technical information. In exchange for cheap and faithful labor, he offered knowledge, food, and clothing. In this context Craft Corporations were created, organizations created by the masters of each locality in order to protect their interests.
The Sustainable Craft
Sustainable Craft is an activity that combines environmental sustainability with crafts. It is the use of recycling in the manufacture of handcrafted objects.
Much has been said today about environmental preservation and sustainability, researchers and scholars are looking for ways to preserve nature and thus seek to raise awareness about the excessive consumption that is taking place, the high waste production and the problem that this means. has been causing in our environment, pointing out the consequences that we can suffer if we continue to have such attitudes, since few are really concerned about it.

The word Art originates from Latin and means skill, is linked to any kind of manifestation that has aesthetic value. Prior to its emergence as mere aesthetic pleasure, Art served to answer the fears of men who did not understand the meaning of life. To make art is necessary to have gift, from the perception that the artist has of the world around him art originates. As each human being has a kind of view on the same subjects, the works of art come out with unique meanings, depending on one’s thinking.
There is no rule to define what art is, because as it depends on the point of view of its producer, it lives in constant mutation. A cultural phenomenon, this is the best definition to explain what art means. Each period forms different groups that think and act according to the events of society of the time in which they live, so depending on the time we analyze, Art can be defined through certain terms. This is because, from time to time it is simpler to classify Art without such complexity, since the productions are similar to each other.
Works of art are usually associated with paintings, but are linked to many other objects. Music, drawing, theater, cinema, dance, literature, sculpture, architecture, among others, are art forms. They are distinct ways of expressing the feelings of human beings towards the world in which they live.
Precisely for this reason works of art were censored in the dictatorship. The military government did not want the artists, representatives of the people, to give their impressions and opinions about that historical moment they were experiencing. After all, Art has always positively and negatively influenced the opinion of the masses.
Crafts are a variation of Art. It is considered a means of expressing the opinion of the craftsman as it expresses the creativity and thoughts of the maker. Since Art is a cultural phenomenon, one of its expressions, crafts can only be defined as a popular cultural movement. Craft products are varied, ranging from pieces made of clay to objects made from recyclable materials. Usually products are sold at fairs located in the historic centers of cities. It is common to find the sale of typical foods in this type of fair.
